Civic slopes

File under: , ,

blurry railslideSaturday evening's oddly-named Brothers of Metal event saw dozens of snowboarders and freestyle skiers converge on Civic Square to enjoy 40 tonnes of snow (partly artficial, partly trucked down from Ruapehu) and a huge ramp.

Not being an expert on the techniques and aesthetics of sliding around with bits of wood stuck to one's feet, I was unable to judge the quality of the competition, but it was nevertheless a diverting spectacle to see railslides and other tricks performed beneath Neil Dawson's Ferns. An afterparty was held at Dixon St's Hope Bros bar, where the participants no doubt got thoroughly piste.snow in Civic Square
