Best of the best

File under: ,

Nominations for the First Annual Wellingtonista Awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence have been announced. You have ten days to vote for the superlative local examples of 26 categories, including the best bar to go to when even Winston Peters has gone to bed, the event that made you get off your arse the most and the most baddest wickedest evilest supervillain of the year. And did I mention the prizes for entering?

11. Wellington most needs:
ummmmmmmm....

A. A tiki bar
B. An aquarium
C. Light rail
D. A bypass
E. Other:

Its a hard choice, Light rail vs. Tiki Bar?... geez how about a travelling Tiki, the last carriage can be the bar. Tiki Caboose

Perhaps its just a case of 'like minds' however I see a strong Beard influence in the categories....

It was a collective Wellingtonista effort, with Jo taking the lead. I suggested a few categories and nominees, but I suspect it's just the hive mind at work.

I'm pushing for a tiki bar tram to the aquarium.

I seem a bit obsessed about aviation lately, so how about a proper airport runway? And a direct light rail link between it and the CBD?

More realistically though, a mobile bar as suggested by Tom would be unique.

OH. MY. GOD.

I never put the two together until now but the new aquarium would be the perfect place for a Tiki bar!

Naturally we'd need light rail to get there (all aboard the Tiki-Train, all the cars could look like this)

Well I have always like the Dutch solution to problems, stack things up like a pancake and see what happens - how about an Aquarium train...on second thoughts it may need to be a very big train, or perhaps very small fish....still we can bring the fish to the south coast and the city, fun for the whole family.....you may not even need to get resource consent…...
